Optometrists provide the majority of eye care in the country, which is more than simply examining eyes and prescribing glasses and contact lenses. You'll need good communication skills to interact with patients and clearly explain eye-care issues and instructions.
To become a licensed optometrist, students must attend a professional program to earn a Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree. These are commonly 4 year programs. Entrance to these programs is contingent on passing the Optometry Admission Test (OAT). Your Heidelberg education will prepare you for this test, which covers the areas of biology, organic chemistry, general chemistry, reading comprehension, quantitative reasoning, and physics.
